The URSUS Company was founded in 1893 in Warsaw.
The production started with the manufacture of fittings for sugar and food industry and for distilleries of alcohol. Later the product range expanded.
In 1907 the production of low-power combustion engines started, but in 1913 also 450 HP engines for power stations and the so-called locomobiles, used in agriculture were built. Until 1914, 6000 engines, well-known in the whole Kingdom of Poland and Rusia, were sold.
In 1915 the Company started to design an agricultural tractor. The first tractor left the plant in 1922 and during next 5 years another 100 tractors were manufactured. They were of such a good quality that one of them was in use until 1968.
After the war, after re-building the damaged plant, the production of tractors started in 1947. Within 12 years 60 thousand units left the Company. At the same time URSUS engineers worked on a new model and in 1957 the first C-325 tractor, entirely of Polish design, was released. For that time the C-325 tractor was technologically very advanced. A lot of successful models were manufactured in this family of tractors. Their power was being increased and they were provided with an engine - driven compressor and many other options. The C-328 model obtained an attestation of recorganized Testing Institutes in USA (Nebraska), France (Antony) and India (Budni). Until 1967, 101 338 tractors were produced in this group. The last one - the very popular C-330 was being produced from 1967 to the first quater 1993 giving the total number of tractors sold in that family to over 535 000 units.
In 1965 following an agreement with the Czechoslovak government, the production of middle-size tractors with a 4-cylinder engine of 45HP started. 650 881 units of this C-4011 model (C-355 and C-360 after modernization) were made until 1992.
In the mid - 1969 the production of the C-385 heavy tractor with a 76HP engine of a joint Polish-Czechoslovak design started. Currently the biggest tractor in this family is URSUS 1634 with a 155HP engine. Until the end of '96, 100435 tractors were made in this group.
In 1974 URSUS signed the licence agreement with Massey Ferguson Perkins for the manufacture of MF tractors and Perkins engines.
Entering the second century of its existence URSUS has started the new times, implementing the restructurization plan. It occupies a leading position, both in Poland and Europe as a modern well-run metallurgical and tractors plant.
It has excellent, top quality products, technology, design and production base and well-organized commercial network in the country and abroad.
